When I was island hopping in Greece, the island of Koufonisia surprised me the most. This hidden gem is pretty small and more quiet than the other islands in the Aegean Sea. However, the amount of things I did during my stay here was far more adventurous than I had anticipated. Keep on reading as I’ll share the top 9 things to do in Koufonisia.

1. Devil’s Eye
Devil’s Eye is located on the East side of the main island (Ano Koufonisia) and well-known due to the shape of this natural pool. Can you spot the heart?
Because of the rocky surroundings, this spot is only accessible by foot. From Koufonisia Port, the hike takes around 40 minutes. You can also take one of the taxi boats (direction Pori beach) and ask the conductor which port is closest to Devil’s Eye.
If you decide to hike, I highly recommend doing it first thing in the morning, as it can get very hot during the day (Summer-time) and there is no shade in this area.

2. Ammos Beach
This beach was my favourite in Koufonisia and probably in all of Greece. Ammos Beach is located next to the ferry port and is a full public beach.
The water here is so blue and the views are just something else. This is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the water, plus bars and restaurants are close by.

3. Taxi boats
The best way to explore different parts of the island is by taxi boat. These boats run every 30 minutes from the main port to different spots on the island. A day pass costs €5 pp and is an easy way the discover more secluded spots on the island, not to mention it’s really fun!

4. Koufonisia sunset point
Watching the sunset in Koufonisia is a whole other experience than in Santorini for example. Expect breathtaking views with only a few people around. Truly, it’s like a dream. The best sunset spot can be found on the South part of the island, just passed the “Windmill Villa”.

5. Ksylompatis Caves
Next must-visit spot on the list are the Ksylompatis Caves. Located on the North side of the main island, you’ll find some incredible rock structures combined with one of the clearest waters I’ve ever seen.
You can easily reach this place by taking a taxi boat and getting off at ‘Pori Beach’. Ksylompatis Caves are located next to the public beach area.

6. Kastelli beach
Kastelli beach was the highlight of the trip for me. This particular spot is located on the West side of Kato Koufonisia and is only accessible by boat.
Note that the taxi boat only goes here during sunset (but you need to explicitly ask the conductor!). Note that there is no port here and you stay on the taxi boat to enjoy the surroundings.
If you want to explore this place during the day, you need to book a (private) boat trip.

7. Dine at one (or more) of the many restaurants
When it comes to dining in Koufonisia, the food options are endless and honestly, this island offered the best meals I had in all of Greece.
Here are my top recommendations:
- Mylos Koufonisia – amazing views
- Guacamole – best burgers I ever had
- Melissa restaurant – delicious Greek food
- Puotiki – the best gelato

8. Hawaii Beach
When taking a taxi boat to Kato Koufonisia, this particular beach can’t be missed! Hawaii beach is a small and secluded beach, ideal for a relaxing afternoon to enjoy the sun and clear waters.
Note there are no shops or restaurants here: packing water and snacks in advance is necessary!

9. Streets of Koufonisia
Wandering around the streets in (South) Ano Koufonisia is a real treat to the eye: the small streets with many cute houses and stunning decorations make for the perfect picture!
