Santorini is known for its whitewashed buildings and blue domes. The island is really as stunning as it’s pictured in magazines and on social media. Most of the photos you see on Instagram were taken in Oia, which is the most popular area of the island (and also the most expensive). Even though Oia can get quite busy, you really can’t skip this dreamy town.
Here are 7 great photo spots in Oia and beyond.
1. Kastro Houses – Oia
Let’s kick-off with this famous spot in Oia, ‘Kastro Oia Houses’. This house is located on the other end of town and is easy accessible. You can take many pictures with different perspectives as this spot is situated down some stairs.

2. Whitewashed buildings in Oia
I feel like blue and white become your new favourite colours when you’re in Oia. This town has so many beautiful buildings! This white house with blue accent door ended up being one of my favourite shots in all of Santorini.

3. The stairs to heaven – Oia
Chances are that this location already popped up many times on your Instagram feed. It’s one of the most iconic places in Oia and is truly a magical spot. However, be prepared to wait in line if you want to take some cute shots here.
I stayed in Oia for 3 days and people were queuing here all the time. If you want to take a shot like this, I’d recommend to go in the afternoon to avoid the long waiting times. We tried to go in the morning but at least 15 people where in line, every day..

4. Caldera view
Santorini is famous for its stunning views of the Caldera. If your budget allows it, you can book an accommodation with a Caldera view. (Tip: consider Fira or Imerovigli to book your accommodation) . This particular shot was taken in Fira. If you want the details on this accommodation, feel free to contact me.
However, there are many other spots along the cliff side that will allow you to take some stunning pictures with that beautiful view.

5. Oia’s Castle
Oia’s castle is no hidden gem by any means. It’s the most popular spot in Santorini to watch the sunset and offers a stunning view of the town and the ocean. If you’re into photography, you’ll LOVE this location. But please note: you won’t be alone at sunset.

6. Imerovigli – Santorini
The town of Imerovigli is situated on the ‘Golden Road’ between Oia and Fira, Santorini’s capital. This town looks similar to Oia but is not as busy, which makes it easier to take a few cute shots. The vibes are a bit more relaxed in Imerovigli, so definitely worth checking out. Accommodations here are also cheaper than in Oia.

7. Golden Road – Fira to Imerovigli
The ‘Golden Road’ is a walking trail between Fira and Imerovigli. Not only is this a lovely walk (20-30 minutes) with stunning Caldera views, the road also offers many beautiful photo spots along the side of the trail.
