1. Pasabag/Monks Valley
Let’s kick off with one of my favourite photo spots in Cappadocia: Pasabag Valley, also referred to as Monks Valley. This unique spot can be found in Pasabag’s Fairy Chimneys.
Chances are you’ve already seen this place all over Instagram. These mushroom-shaped Fairy Chimneys makes for a unique scenery you need to visit when in Cappadocia.
I recommend to get here before 10AM to beat the crowds. Afterwards, the big groups start to arrive. We were at this spot at 09:30 AM and had the place almost completely to ourselves for at least 15 minutes.

2. Pasabag Fairy Chimneys
Pasabag Fairy Chimneys is most known for Pasabag Valley, however, aside from that unique spot, there are many other beautiful rock formations to be found in the area and those are way less crowded as well.
This particular photo spot (picture below) can be found by following the road on your left when exiting Pasabag Valley (back facing the Valley).

3. Hot air balloon view point
Watching the hot air balloons take off at sunrise is a magical experience that is worth the early wake-up call. The good thing about sunrise is that you’ll be shooting during Golden Hour which offers the best lighting for photos.
Here are some of the best spots to watch and photograph the balloons:
- Your hotel terrace
- Göreme sunrise/sunset point (pictures below)
- Hot air balloon take-off point
- Love Valley
Be sure to arrive 30 minutes before sunrise at your chosen spot. This way you can witness preparation of the balloons before they take off, which is a magical viewing as well. Note that the first balloons take off before actual sunrise.

4. Hotel terrace
If you book your hotel in Göreme, there is a big chance it will have a terrace with amazing views over the town and the balloons at sunrise! The best thing of all: this does not come with a high price tag!
We stayed at Caftan Cave suites (pictures below). They have 2 terraces with stunning views for taking photos. The cave rooms were incredibly beautiful and the staff was the best. We only paid €85 per night for 2 people, breakfast included.
Other recommended hotels with great roof terraces:
- Mithra Cave Hotel
- Sultan Cave Suites
- Local Cave House Hotel
- Koza Cave Hotel

5. In a hot air balloon
The main reason people come to Cappadocia is to fly/see the hot air balloons. In my blogpost top things to do in Cappadocia, I talk more about the experience itself.
Flying in a hot air balloon is a magical thing to do and a great opportunity to take some stunning photos. When the balloons fly lower and/or between the Valleys, you can create the best shots!
The balloons only fly at sunrise, which means you fly during Golden Hour!

6. Love Valley
One of the popular Valleys in Göreme is Love Valley. Many people say this valley is called like that because of its ‘loving’ shaped rock formations…
Even though Love Valley is quite known, it’s not an overcrowded area, mainly because it’s not as easy to get to as Pasabag Valley for example. The walking area itself isn’t too big either. However, this valley makes for some fun and unique photo spots.
We grabbed a taxi to visit Love Valley and asked our driver to wait for 30 minutes. This was sufficient time to explore the area and take a few shots.

7. Göreme Panorama
Located just outside the centre of Göreme, you’ll find Göreme Panorama. This spot offers unreal views over the unique landscape and town of Göreme.
There are a few large rocks that can be accessed to enjoy the view even better and take some cool pictures on (see below).

8. Pigeon Valley
Located in the town of Uçhisar, you’ll find Pigeon Valley. There is no entrance fee and the views reminded me of a fairytale town where fairies and princesses lived. This valley is definitely worth checking out!
Bonus: just at the entrance of Pigeon Valley, you’ll find a cute photo spot on your left that offers views of Uchisar Castle (picture below).
