Santorini is known to be a luxury destination and has the most expensive hotels in all of Greece. Though, just like every place in the world, you can have an equal fun experience when on a budget. Here are my 5 tips to visit Santorini on a budget.

1. Consider to stay in other towns than Oia
Oia is the most famous spot in Santorini. It’s also the most expensive. There are definitely hotels and Airbnbs that are affordable, but don’t expect a room with a view under €250 a night. We actually stayed in a cute Airbnb in Oia for under €100 a night. If you want the details, DM me on Instagram: @peachandsalty.
Another area in Santorini to consider is Perissa beach. This town is located on the East side of the island next to some amazing beaches. There, you can easily find accommodations under 100EUR a night with a pool.
Other areas to stay that won’t break the bank are Kamari, Fira, Akrotiri and Firostefani. From these locations, you can make a daytrip to Oia.

2. Take the bus
Santorini has a fairly good bus system for a very reasonable price which allows you to easily reach different parts of the island. The main bus station is in Fira, which will be the transfer-point if you want to go from Perissa beach to Oia for example.
Tickets will run you between €1,80-€3,60 per person and can be purchased on the bus.
Other modes of transportation are renting a car / ATV or taking a taxi. This will be obviously more expensive.

3. Don’t eat out in Oia
Restaurants in Oia can be very expensive. If you’re travelling on a budget, I recommend eating out in different parts of the island like Fira. This is my best tip to visit Santorini on a budget.

4. Visiting during shoulder / low season
The Summer months (June until September) are high season in Santorini. If you visit during the shoulder months, the weather will still be nice and prices are a little bit more reasonable.
Island hopping during the low season will be the least expensive time to visit, but do check the ferry times in advance as they don’t run that often compared to the high season.

5. Get your own photographer
When in Santorini, you want to take at least a few pictures. A popular thing to do is hire a photographer. Instead, bring your friend or partner and get them to take your pictures. Traveling solo? Bring a tripod.
To make this process more easy, do your research on the different spots you want to take pictures at in advance.
