BEST TIME TO VISIT MILOS
To enjoy the stunning beaches at it fullest, you need to plan your trip around the Summer time. July and August are the hottest months, yet the most crowded period to visit due to school holidays. June, September and October are my top recommended months to visit.

HOW TO GET THERE
There are 2 options to reach the island of Milos:
- By ferry
If you’re island hopping in Greece, the easiest way to reach Milos Island is by ferry. In the high season, ferries run frequently and if you book in advance, prices are pretty good. The port is located in the town of Adamas.
Keep in mind that the sea can be rough. Especially on the smaller ferries you’ll have a higher chance of getting seasick. Tip: pack medication for seasickness.
- By plane
Milos has a local airport located 9 kilometres from the capital, Plaka. The airport serves only domestic flight from/to Athens. The journey takes around 30-40 minutes and during high season, there a multiple flights a day.
The planes are very small, which makes for a fun and unique experience.

HOW TO GET AROUND IN MILOS
The best way to explore Milos is to rent a car or an ATV/motorcycle. Most spots are kind of far out and more difficult to reach via public transportation. Renting a vehicle allows you to visit the most secluded spots at your own pace.
Another option is to take the bus. The main bus station is located in Adamas and takes you to popular spots on the island like Sarakiniko, Pollonia and Firiplaka Beach. Note that some spots can’t be reached by bus like Klima, Firopotamos or Fourkovouni. I did take the bus a few times and did found it to be very comfortable and reliable.

WHERE TO STAY
When it comes to choosing your place to stay, there are a few options. Depending on the type of vacation you’re looking for, one might be more suitable than the other.
1. Most convenient area
- Adamas is the town where you’ll arrive if you travel by ferry. The main bus station is located there as well and the majority of the boat trips depart from Adamas port. The town also offers great vibes and has many restaurants & cafes. I visited Milos twice and stayed both times in the town of Adamas. It’s definitely the most convenient ‘base camp’ to explore the island.
2. Charming villages
- Plaka is the capital of Milos and due to its location (on a hill) this town offers unreal sunsets, picturesque spots and many cafes & restaurants. During the day the town is more quiet as the crowds typically arrive around sunset.
- Pollonia is a serene fishing village located on the north east tip of the island. If you want to be close to the beach with a more authentic touch, this place will be perfect for you.
3. Unique stays
Looking for a more unusual place with a spectacular view? Milos got you covered! There are a few small fishing villages that offer accommodations. Note that these spots are limited so booking in advance is necessary.
- Klima is a colourful fishing village located just outside Plaka. This place becomes especially beautiful during sunset when the surroundings and vibes give you goosebumps right away
- Firopotamos is postcard perfect! If I were to go back to Milos, I’d book an accommodation on the bay at this small picturesque village.
- Fourkovouni is the most secluded from the three due to its tricky accessibly (picture below) but absolutely worth the effort.

HOW MANY DAYS
The list of things to do and see on the island is endless, I really encourage you to book enough days to experience the island at its fullest. Take into account that most destinations are bit spread out or tricky to get too.
I suggest booking one week on the island, you’ll still feel like it’s not enough but a full week will allow you to explore different villages and beaches at a comfortable pace.
